HeiQ AGS-20 - antimicrobial silver powder
The HeiQ AGS-20 powder is a microcomposite structure composed of silver particles supported throughout a matrix of amorphous silicon dioxide . The agglomerated SiO2 matrix forms a particle with a typical size of a few micrometers. Each silica particle contains many embedded silver metal particles . These silver particles are found embedded throughout the silica structure. The silver particles act as a reservoir for release of silver ions (Ag+) upon contact with water. These silver ions are active agents against microbes. The presence of both surface and embedded silver particles gives the material a combination of immediate antimicrobial activity combined with long-term durability. The fine size of the microcomposite particles allow them to be readily mixed into a variety of substrates including e.g. textile finish, synthetic fibers, coatings and plastics. Applications The antimicrobial effects of HeiQ AGS-20 fit within a broad range of sectors and applications: - Synthetic fibers (e.g. PES/PA/PBT/PP/Viscose) - Textile finish - Medical applications (catheters, wound dressings, patches etc) - Plastic parts (injection molding, extrusion and more) - Paints and coatings - Cosmetics
